Crosshaven AFC

The U16's picked up a point this evening away to National Cup finalists Midleton. A draw was probably a fair result but both sides had chances to take all three. First half saw Conor Finn produce a wonderful full stretch save to deny Midleton while Crosshaven felt they should have had a penalty when Ethan Berkery Kelly was bundled over. Rory went close from a free before Peter Lehane went on a mazy run and could have shot himself but instead played Zach Murphy in on goal but he was judged to be narrowly offside. Second half was more of the same. Conor making two good saves, Ethan & Diego denied penalties but the move of the game saw Cian Herlihy turn into Michael Flatley in the penalty box, producing some dazzling footwork before his just cleared the bar. 0-0 was final result & with both sides missing key players it was a good point. ... Crosshaven AFC

The 13's bowed out of the Cup this morning after a titanic battle with Premier side Ringmahon Rangers in Mahon. The home side dominated the first half and if it wasn't for a super defensive display & an inspired performance from keeper Rian Coleman Crosshaven would have been more than a goal behind. The introduction of both Jack Forde & Rory Deane put Crosshaven on the front foot early in the second half & they levelled matters with a well taken goal through Alex O'Connell. Ringmahon though regained the lead with a lucky speculative second. They stretched that lead to 3-1 within minutes and Crosshaven were left with a mountain to climb. Shay Murphy pulled one back firing in direct from a corner. Rhys Kelly Noonan went close with a left foot drive as Crosshaven pressed for an equaliser. When Alex O'Connell was bundled over in the box Crosshaven thought they'd have the chance to level but play was waved on. With two minutes to go Alex again sprung the offside trap but incredibly the ref blew him for being off much to the dismay of the management team. When the final whistle sounded Crosshaven were devastated but can be proud of a super performance. Best on the day were Rian Coleman (MoM), Alex O'Connell, Jack Forde, Daniel Callanan & Luca Berkery Kelly.
Team: Rian Coleman (Fionn O'Donovan), Luca Berkery Kelly, Jim White, Shay Murphy, Eamon O'Dwyer (Rory Deane), Daniel Callanan, Fionn Mansfield, JP Curtin, Kieran Murphy (Jack Forde), Alex O'Connell & Rhys Kelly Noonan.
