Match Report 10/06/18 Crosshaven Galacticos V Passage Under 9's

There's two times of year for the lads: soccer season, and waiting for soccer season and so it came to pass that the boys played their last Cork Schoolboys Fixture on Sunday against Passage in Rockenham Park.

Things didn't go according to plan at this fixture, a bad omen being we all turned up to the wrong pitch at 5pm and being superstitious the coaches knew nothing could be done from that moment on to win 4 out of 4 matches. The Crosshaven Galactico motto is that under 9 soccer is a simple game. 14 boys chase a ball for 24 minutes and at the end, Crosshaven always win. But not this time. We came up against a very strong Passage outfit and they were excellent hosts.

Without going into all the matches (won one, drew one, lost two) the boys had a great outing and showed a lot of guts and skill to come from behind and lose in Pat's matches and come from behind in drawing and winning Rory's matches. This was the first time all season we have lost two matches and that says a lot about the boys and the work they have put in.

The coaches would like to acknowledge all of the boys efforts this season and it has been a pleasure to coach them, and also to see the progress and confidence building throughout the season. We have had many memorable moments (which we intend to document as a momento during the summer and give to them), playing in the snow and mud up in Camden to beautiful sunny days like two weekend's ago against Fermoy. What has been even more pleasurable has been the spirit the team has showed and the gamesmanship showed in every game, we think it is fair to say from feedback from other teams we have faced that they have rated the boys highly and this is a huge credit to them. There is no point in listing individual allocades right now as this is a team game and we hope that every one of the lads has enjoyed the past season. We will be doing player ratings next week from the past season and publishing them in the Echo. We would also like to acknowledge the boys from the under 8's who have really helped us field teams and also contributed hugely to the teams they played with. We hope to see them next season. Soccer should be about joy and the joy on the boys faces when they won or scored was wonderful to watch, you want to keep that feeling in them. Last but not least thanks to the parents who have supported and brought the boys to soccer, without them they would all have had to get the bus or walk to matches and training , which was what was done in the old days 🙂

Next weekend the boys play their first competitive tournament in Carraigline from 2-6 pm and if you could drop in to support them that would be great. They are pumped to the eyeballs about it and lets hope what they learned this season will show on Saturday. We intend to bring home some silverware and if we don't we will go down trying.
