Crosshaven U12s continued their winning run with a solid 2-1 away win to local younger rivals Carrigaline (U11 Premier) on Sunday. Missing a number of key players, Crosser started well and clearly enjoyed the higher speed of the game on the host's new all weather playing surface in Ballea. With Sam filling-in between the posts for the first time this season, the back line of David Jolly, Eoin and Conor D'Arcy were under a bit more pressure than usual. They need not have worried though, as Sam was outstanding throughout the game making great saves and distributing the ball very well. With David Cotter and Sean Canty pairing up in midfield for the first time, only the front three had the familiar look to it, with Harry McCann, Harry Jeffers and Benjamin leading the attack. As it happened, it was the front line, who were mis-firing for the team. A combination of the higher speed surface and some excellent Carrigaline defence, especially by their goalkeeper, resulted in chance after chance going a begging. Inevitably, Crosshaven were caught on a counter attack, with a clearance from a Crosshaven corner giving Carrigaline a break-out, which resulted in a very well taken goal and left the visitors trailing 1-0 at half time, against the run of play.

The second half brought a significant improvement in effort and application all round, as both teams were getting into what was now a very good match, with the large crowd of onlookers enjoying some great play in what was now very obviously a local derby. Crosshaven had the edge in terms of possession, but seemed destined to a frustrating afternoon, as the Carrigaline defence held firm. With Jack and Adam Jeffers arriving to make an impact up front, it was Harry Jeffers who got the equaliser - finishing off an excellent team move with his usual determination. Crosshaven were now well on top in midfield, but chances remained for both teams. It took the brilliant conversion of a free kick from the edge of the box by Sean to break the deadlock and give Crosser the lead their play had deserved. Sean's beautifully struck free around the wall hit the net before the goalkeeper had a chance to react - not easy given the reduced size of the U12 goals I can promise you. Lorcan and Adam Murphy came on from the bench to man the defences with Conor and an exciting last 10 minutes ensued. Both teams had chances, but it remained 2-1 to the final whistle.

The team's winning run continues and Sunday's game gives more miles on the clock to a fast maturing team. Local rivalries settled and a bullet avoided against an excellent younger team, Crosshaven's lads left Ballea with their honour intact. A great day's work. Well done to all.
