A busy Sunday morning saw both Crosshaven u12 and u13 teams advance in the cork schoolboys league local cup. Playing at home in Camden, the u13s team were never really in trouble against Rockmount. The team continued its recent run of wins with a 3-1 victory and a great all round team performance.
A number of players had to make a quick exit down to Riverstown, where they joined a very strong u12 panel for their away cup fixture. Again Crosshaven were never under any pressure and ran out very comfortable 12-0 winners. It is always preferred not to single out individual players but Alex O’Connell’s 5 goal haul deserves special mention amidst a fantastic performance by the entire squad.
The U15’s eased into the next round of the cup with a comfortable 4-0 away win over Leeds. With goalkeeper Conor Finn away in Dublin, Owen Merchant stepped into the position keeping an excellent clean sheet. Lee Davies opened the scoring for Crosshaven on 20 minutes with an excellent finish. Five minutes later Patrick Cotter doubled the advantage powering home a left foot drive after being teed up by Adam Maye following good work in the middle by Cameron McIndoe & Rory O’Sullivan. Leeds went close before the break with Max Harvey clearing off the line after the home side had struck the post. The first attack of the second half saw Diego Campos virtually seal the win with a neat finish before Cian Herlihy put the icing on the cake with a poachers goal five minutes from time. Special mention this week for Peter Lehane who was outstanding throughout & nearly capped the performance with an individual goal only to be denied by the Leeds keeper.
Well done to the Crosshaven AFC Under 12 girls team who played their first match Saturday. Farrah O’Driscoll scored Crosshavens only goal against a strong Douglas side. The club would like to thank all involved in getting a girls team back playing for the first time in 5 years. Come on the blues
The Juniors drew 1-1 with league leaders Rockmount at home Saturday. A penalty in the final minute of the game cost the blues the 3 pts but a great team performance bodes well for the 2nd half of the season.
